Boy charged with second degree murder in homeless man’s death
A 13-year-old boy is in custody, charged in connection with the death of a homeless man in Cape Coral.
Yoel Munoz was arrested and charged Sunday with burglary while armed and second degree murder in the death of Thomas J. Bergstrom, 51.
Bergstrom was stabbed “numerous times” at a homeless camp behind the area of 100 NE Pine Island Road where he died as a result, Cape Coral Police said in a statement released Sunday afternoon.
The investigation began shortly before noon Saturday when officers responded a call reporting a body at the camp.
“Based on evidence recovered from the scene, Detectives were quickly able to develop a suspect,” the release states, adding that suspect was identified as Yoel.
“This is still an on-going investigation,” police said.
