A Cape Coral man remained in jail Tuesday after he allegedly sexually assaulted a girl.

Ernesto N. Chaudruc, 68, of 2024 Country Club Blvd., was arrested and charged last week with one felony count of sex assault by 18 years of age or older sex battery victim under 12 years of age.

He is being held without bond at the Lee County Jail, according to the booking records.

On July 8, the Cape police responded to a disturbance at 2024 Country Club Blvd. Officers made contact with a woman, who stated that she caught Chaudruc inappropriately touching a child.

According to a report, Chaudruc and the girl were in a bedroom watching cartoons when the woman checked on them. The two were lying in the bed under the covers, and it appeared that Chaudruc’s hand was moving under the covers near the child. She walked in and he pulled his hand away as if startled.

The woman questioned Chaudruc, and he reportedly asked why she was trying to hurt him.

The report states that the woman pulled the girl out of the room and asked what Chaudruc had been doing. The girl told the woman that Chaudruc put his hand down her pants and touched her.

Chaudruc reportedly told officers that he was only scratching the child’s stomach.

He was taken into custody and charged based on provided statements.

Chaudruc’s family declined to comment on the allegations against him Tuesday.

He has a court appearance scheduled for Aug. 11.
