City relocates valet parking area for Boathouse

2 min read

City officials Tuesday decided to relocate the area used for valet parking for the Boathouse Tiki Bar & Grill at the Cape Coral Yacht Club to the overflow lot west of Driftwood Parkway effective Thursday.

City spokesperson Connie Barron said the relocation decision is in response to concerns received from citizens and park visitors since the Boathouse opened less than three weeks ago.

“Valet parking was always just a trial to see if it was a solution to the parking problems at the park,” said Barron. “Parking has always been limited at the Yacht Club and we knew it would be exacerbated by the Boathouse opening. The feedback we’ve received made it clear that an alternate location had to be found.”

The valet service hired by the Kearns Restaurant Group, which owns the Boathouse, has been able to park up to 80 vehicles in the 38-space area nearest the restaurant and clubhouse. The valet parking is for the convenience of all park users, not just Boathouse guests.

The valet service charges a fee of $3 on weekdays and $5 on weekends and is offered from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.

“They probably won’t have as many spaces in the overflow lot,” said Barron, “but I’m sure the valet service will try to squeeze in as many as possible. We’ll cross our fingers and see how this works out.”

Barron said the city will continue to evaluate the new valet lot as well as all parking options to ensure reasonable access for all park visitors.
