Morotcyclist dies following early morning accident
A Fort Myers man died of injuries suffered in a single vehicle crash that police say occurred after he lost control of his motorcycle early Sunday morning.
Deputies responded to the crash scene at 18637 Holly Road in San Carlos Park just before 1:30 a.m. The driver and sole occupant of the motorcycle, Gary Miller, 47, of 18125 Adams Circle, was rushed to the hospital where he died from his injuries.
An investigation conducted by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit shows Miller was traveling northbound on Holly Road on his 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle. Miller was trying to negotiate a curve but lost control due to his speed, officials said in a prepared statement issued Sunday afternoon.
“This caused the motorcycle to exit the roadway onto the grassy shoulder,” the release states. “The motorcycle vaulted into the air and continued travelling in a northeast direction at which time it struck a parked vehicle. The impact sent debris into two other parked vehicles.”
No one else was injured.
