Cape man charged in traffic crash
A Cape Coral driver is facing charges for a St. Patrick’s Day accident that involved injuries.
Jonathan Michael Blevins, 22, of 3009 S.E. 15th Ave., was arrested and charged Thursday with one count of drive while license suspended death serious injury, according to jail booking records.
As of Tuesday, he had been released from the Lee County Jail on $2,000 bond.
He could not be reached for comment on the charges.
At 9:22 p.m. March 17, Blevins was traveling eastbound on Archer Parkway from Country Club Boulevard in a Toyota Camry, when he tried to negotiate a left turn in the road in the 2700 block and oversteered, police stated. The car entered the median and the passenger’s side hit two palm trees.
The impact spun the Camry around, and it traveled forward about 45 feet before stopping.
According to a police report, Blevins was not wearing a seat belt and was forced into the rear seat.
He sustained minor injuries and was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released. A passenger in the car sustained serious injuries and was trauma alerted to the hospital.
As of Tuesday, Robert Charles Ahren, 22, of 1939 S.E. 21st St., had been discharged.
Blevins told police at the hospital that he had not been driving. According to the report, he later admitted that he was driving at the time of the crash and that the crash was just an accident.
A driver’s license check of Blevins showed that his license was currently suspended for failure to pay traffic fines and failure to complete court-appointed traffic school, officials reported.
Blevins was additionally cited for careless driving in the recent crash.
He has a court appearance scheduled for April 21.
