A Cape Coral driver was released from the hospital after crashing into a tree last month.

As of Thursday, Keith Bradley Knicely, 25, of 323 N.E. 42nd Terrace, had been discharged from Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was transported Jan. 10 following the accident in the Cape.

“The driver is out of the hospital now,” Sgt. Dana Coston, a spokesman for the Cape police, said.

At about 2:30 a.m., police responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 2400 block of Diplomat Parkway East. Knicely had been driving westbound in a Chevrolet Cobalt when he lost control while navigating a curve in the road.

Officials reported that the Chevy crossed the median and oncoming lanes of traffic.

The vehicle then left the road and struck a tree head-on.

Knicely was not wearing a seat belt. He sustained multiple life-threatening injuries and was trauma-alerted to the hospital by ambulance, according to officials. He underwent surgery for his injuries.

Alcohol or drugs were reportedly a factor in the accident, officials said.

“(The) case is pending further DUI investigation follow up,” Coston said Thursday.

The investigation continues.
