CCFD rescues dog; Animal Services seeking owner
Cape Coral Fire Department personnel rescued a dog from a storm drain Monday and now Lee County Animal Services is hoping to find its owner.
The rescue took place on Monday, Feb. 10, after firefighters pulled the female mixed American bull dog from a drain pipe near a canal at 1755 Cape Coral Parkway East.
She apparently fell into the canal and was unable to exit due to the sea wall, officials said, adding, that fortunately, she swam into the drainage system and clawed her way into an outlet pipe connected to a sewer drain.
“Had it not been for the quick response and determination of the Cape Coral Fire Department, she most likely would not have survived her ordeal,” said LCDAS Operations Manager Glenn Johnson in a prepared statement.
Daphne, as she is now being called, did not have identification, including a microchip, and was not wearing a collar.
Although she is currently being held at Lee County Domestic Animal Services and her owner is being sought, she will be available for adoption if her owner cannot be found.
Anyone interested may complete an on-line adoption application at www.leelostpets.com or call LCDAS at 533-7387 if you have information about her rightful owner. Daphne’s animal ID number is A582800 for inquiries.
