Mariner students share holiday joy with kids
Mariner High School’s Key Club got back into community outreach last week at the Foundations Early Learning Center and IMPACT school.
Foundations is a day care for children under the age of 5. Seven Key Club members read Christmas stories to the students and handed out holiday goody bags containing art supplies on Friday.
“I’m the new sponsor of the club,” said Melissa Faasse. “The club had not done outreach services much in the last couple of years. I’m reinstating outreach and we’re going to do more.”
Club members conducted bake sales at two school events, the Mr. Triton contest and a talent show, to raise funds with which they purchased the goody bags they delivered to children on Friday.
Faasse said the club will volunteer for city events if asked and has other projects in mind the rest of the school year.
Foundations Early Learning Center serves 93 children ages 1-5. IMPACT is a school that assists little ones under the age of 4 that have learning or physical disabilities.
“Key Club just wanted to share the joy of giving this holiday season and reach out to the younger children here in Cape Coral,” said Faasse.
