Man wanted in 1996 cop killing apprehended in Cape Coral

A man wanted in the 1996 shooting death of a North Carolina police officer was arrested at his Cape Coral home Wednesday.

Scott Vincent Sica, 36, of 2059 Ottersrest Lane, was taken into custody at 7:45 p.m. by members of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit. A warrant out of North Carolina listed the charge as first degree murder, officials said. The arrest was made with the assistance of the Fugitive Warrants Unit, the Street Crimes Unit and the SWAT Team.

Sica is accused of fatally shooting a Jonesville, North Carolina police officer on Oct. 6, 1996.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit has been working in conjunction with the Jonesville Police Department, North Carolina State Bureau of investigations and FBI for the last several months in an attempt to close this case, according to a statement issued by the Sheriff’s Office.
