2 min read

The city of Cape Coral Parks & Recreation Department recently received two professional excellence awards from the Florida Recreation and Park Association including the prestigious “2012 Agency Excellence Award for Category II (agencies serving populations between 150,000-199,999),” and the “2012 Other Print Media Excellence Award” for this year’s Summer Camp Guide.

“We are extremely pleased to be honored with these awards by the Florida Recreation and Park Association,” said Steve Pohlman, Cape Coral Parks & Recreation Director. “Our team works very hard throughout the year to provide a wide range of recreational opportunities and quality parks for citizens of all ages, interests and economic capabilities.”

All award winners were selected by an independent committee of park and recreation professionals throughout the state of Florida with the awards being officially presented on Aug. 30 at the Florida Recreation and Park Association’s Annual Awards Ceremony in Orlando.

The FRPA’s “Agency Excellence Award” is given annually to recognize the state’s most outstanding Community Park, Recreation and/or Leisure Service agencies for excellence in Parks & Recreation management. The award is the highest honor an agency can receive at the state level. Judging is based on each agency’s performance in a wide variety of areas including park development, athletic programming, leisure and cultural arts, fitness and wellness activities, promotion of programs, and citizen involvement. Cape Coral exceeded all other Florida municipalities and counties with similar populations to win the award.

The “Excellence Award for Other Print Media” is presented annually to the agency that has contributed significantly to the public’s increased awareness and recognition of public parks, recreation and leisure service programs. This year’s award was presented to Cape Coral Parks & Recreation in recognition of the 2012 Summer Camp Guide.

“It is an exceptional achievement to be recognized for our efforts and acclaimed as one of the best Parks and Recreation Departments in the state of Florida,” said Pohlman. “I am very proud of our Parks & Recreation team.”
