CCPD: Investigation ongoing into body found in canal
The Cape Coral Police Department is continuing with a death investigation involving a body found Thursday in a canal near the 200 block of Southeast 11th Terrace, according to officials.
At 12:40 p.m., officers responded to the scene of a possible drowning. A boater reported discovering what was believed to be a body floating in the canal. At the time, police did not know if the body was male or female.
Officials noted that there have been no reports of missing persons in the area.
The case has been classified as a “death Investigation,” however, police do not suspect foul play. As of today, the body is in the custody of the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy and ruling on the manner of death.
Police are not releasing the identify of the person until investigators notify the deceased’s family. Notification may take some time due to the fact that the family of the deceased is out of state.
No other information is available at this time, according to officials.
