The driver of a motorcycle killed in a crash on the Cape Coral Bridge this morning has been identified as Tiler Hood, 21, of 4882 Woodstock Rd., St. James City.

The accident occurred shortly before 2:35 a.m. after the motorcycle blew through the pre-pay lane at the toll plaza at speeds estimated at 90-100 mph and then hit the concrete barriers, according to Lee County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tony Schall.

Hood was ejected from the bike and thrown over the bridge. He landed in the water where his body was recovered.

The motorcycle remained on the roadway.

Cause of death is pending autopsy, Schall said, adding it is unknown at this time whether he died from injuries suffered in the crash or drowned.

The westbound lanes were closed until shortly after six a.m., about three hours after deputies received the call at 2:35 a.m.
