Rock ‘n’ Roll Dinner Dance this Saturday
People are invited to dance the night away Saturday to their favorite British music during the ninth annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Dinner Dance Fund-raiser.
Hosted by the Guardian Angels for Special Populations, the event runs from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. in the ballroom at the Lake Kennedy Senior Center, at 400 Santa Barbara Blvd. Tickets are $20 and must be purchased in advance.
Proceeds from the event benefit Cape Coral Special Populations.
“We’re still continuing to have a shortfall on our budget,” Vince Marcucci, president of the Guardian Angels, said. “Our mission is to raise funds for the program. There’s a crisis every day and it’s certainly not in the city budget.”
The theme for this year’s fund-raiser is “British invasion.”
“We’re gonna play a lot of British bands,” he said. “The Beatles, the Stones.”
Themes from previous years have included country, Elvis and the ’50s.
“People love it. Our participants love it,” Marcucci said, adding that there is no dress code. “It’s a casual fun evening – it’s not stuffy at all.”
The price of the ticket includes dinner and desert. Dinner is bangers and mash, which is sausage and mash potatoes, along with grilled cabbage and carrots. A themed-dessert follows – Bailey’s Irish Creme bread pudding.
Soda, coffee and mixers are included.
Complimentary sets up will be provided for BYOB.
According to Marcucci, the evening features 50/50 raffles and drawings, along with free door prizes given away to attendees. The raffle and drawing prizes range from hotel stays to coupons at restaurants and for services.
The door prizes include bottles of wine, ice cream tickets and more.
About 120 people attended last year’s fund-raiser, which cost the same.
“We really thought about raising it $5,” Marcucci said of this year’s ticket price. “But we still found so many generous people to donate.”
As of Tuesday, approximately 140 tickets had been sold.
Organizers have not set a fund-raising goal to hit.
“We didn’t really do that because of the economy. We’re grateful for whatever number of people come,” he said. “We just hope we do as well as we did the previous year. If we do better, that’s a great thing as well.”
Cameron’s British Foods, the sponsor, donated money for the event.
The deadline to purchase tickets is 5 p.m. Thursday. For tickets or for more information, call the Cape Coral Special Populations Center at 574-0574.
