Local pet owners are invited to an afternoon of fun and activities today at the Cape Coral Yacht Club during the inaugural Pet Fair and Parade.

Hosted by the city, the event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the pavilion, located at 5819 Driftwood Parkway. There is no cost for people or pets.

“We see a lot of animals in the park and thought we might as well do something to bring them all together,” manager Barbara Dickinson said.

“I think the more we can offer the community and the more variety, it makes Cape Coral a more interesting place to live and for people to visit,” she said.

Trophies will be awarded for the Best Costume, Best Owner/Pet Lookalike and People’s Choice. There will be a biscuit stacking contest hourly, and free pet-related supplies, such as collars and food, will be handed out as door prizes.

The parade will start at 1 p.m. and people can register day of for $10.

Dickinson noted that people will get a goodie bag for participating.

There will be about eight pet-related vendors on site.

“They’ll be selling pet boutique items,” she said.

Mark Bretschneider, a local professional pet photographer, also will be offering his services at the event.

A typical package costs about $39.99.

“He’ll work with you on an individual basis,” Dickinson said.

The Lee County Animal Refuge Center will be accepting donations of food and pet supplies. There will be animal rescue and adoption information available.

Children can enjoy the free craft’s corner, which will include fun games.

“It’s all part of the program,” she said.

There will be food and refreshments for sale at the event.

Any kind of domestic pets are welcome to attend.

“It’ll be right on the pavilion on the beach,” Dickinson said.

“It’s supposed to be beautiful weather,” she added. “Come down and enjoy the fair and the park.”
