Weather brings urgent need for children’s jackets

2 min read

The recent cold snap has taken a toll on homeless children in Southwest Florida and The Salvation Army is making a desperate plea for children’s winter jackets, gloves and hats.

The Army’s Red Shield Lodge in Fort Myers, which houses families and children, is completely full in addition to having a waiting list. What items the nonprofit had for children have all been handed out and more are needed as soon as possible.

Jackets are needed not only for children living at the shelter but also for families that come to outreach services for help in Lee, Hendry and Glades Counties. Even though a warming trend is forecast, there are two more cold nights predicted this week and cold temperatures are also possible again in January and February.

Jackets are needed for infants, toddlers and school-aged children. Diapers, wipes, hygiene kits, shampoos and conditioners are also needed.
