Hitting the Right Notes: Gulf Coast Symphony to fill Four Freedoms with sweet sounds at sunset
Sounds of the silver screen will be heard emanating through Four Freedoms Park this weekend, as the Symphony at Sunset returns to South Cape Coral Sunday, Jan. 8, from 4 to 6 p.m., presented by the 65-piece orchestra of the Gulf Coast Symphony.
This family friendly, all-ages show is the perfect Sunday activity – and advance weather predictions appear to offer the perfect day for such an outdoor occasion – with clear skies and a high in the low 80s. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets to set up camp for a couple hours in the park along the water while listening to the fine sounds of the Gulf Coast Symphony, this time performing “Sounds of the Silver Screen,” featuring music from popular contemporary movies -possibly including music from Star Wars and other fan favorites.
“The Cape Coral Community Redevelopment Agency is very proud to sponsor the Gulf Coast Symphony during another Symphony at Sunset event at Four Freedoms Park,” said Helen Ramey, economic development manager for the Cape Coral Community Redevelopment Agency. “It is a wonderful way to bring culture to South Cape Coral, a great way to promote the Gulf Coast Symphony, and the perfect family friendly event. It will be delightful.”
“People really make a day of it – coming early, setting up blankets and chairs, having a picnic lunch before the concert. It’s a fun, fun time,” said Gulf Coast Symphony marketing director Amy Padilla. “Many show up in their boats, anchoring along the coast and enjoying the music from the water. I encourage boaters to come by again and enjoy the performance – it’s a great time for all.”
There is no charge to attend the concert, and advance registration is not necessary. Just show up, set up, and enjoy the sweet sounds of the Symphony at Sunset.
“The concert takes place at the perfect time, from 4 to 6 p.m. After the show, families can visit any of the more than 60 South Cape restaurants that are within a half-mile radius of the park,” Ramey said.
Parking will be available at Four Freedoms Park, SunTrust Bank, Capital Bank and the vacant lot next to the Sunset Towers on Cape Coral Parkway. The concert is sponsored by the Cape Coral Community Foundation, and additional support is provided by the CRA, Florida Weekly and the Cape Coral Breeze.
The Gulf Coast Symphony, comprised of an all-local orchestra, exists to contribute to the cultural enrichment of Lee County by producing and performing a broad variety of concerts and creating a diverse, innovative and balanced program of performances, events, community and education projects to reach the widest possible public.
