Fueling mishap damages city pump
A Cape Coral police officer apparently damaged a city fuel pump when he tried to drive away with the gas nozzle still inserted in his tank.
The officer pumped gas into his patrol car Wednesday night in the 1800 block of Everest Parkway. He stated in a report that he “inadvertently drove away from the fuel pumps while the handle and hose were still attached.”
In doing so, the hose detached from the pump, rendering it inoperable.
The officer contacted his supervisor and advised him of the situation. The on-call fleet mechanic was then contacted and informed of the incident.
No apparent damage occurred to the patrol car, according to the report.
Damage to the hose was estimated at $50.
This is not the first time this type of incident has been reported.
In August, a different Cape officer caused $150 in damage to a city fuel hose in the 1000 block of Cultural Park Boulevard when he “inadvertently left the nozzle in my vehicle” and tried to drive off after fueling his car.
The hose became disconnected from the pump and fell to the ground.
Gas was not flowing at the time, but the hose needed to be reconnected.
Damage to the hose was estimated at $150, according to the report.
