Electrical fire damages Cape Coral flower shop
A fire Friday morning heavily damaged a florist shop in a shopping plaza on Del Prado Boulevard South, causing thousands of dollars in damage.
At 5:38 a.m., Cape Coral firefighters responded to a fire at Gentleman of the Rose, at 2938 Del Prado Blvd. S. Fire crews contained the fire to the one business, saving the storefronts on either side, according to city officials.
Battalion Chief Alan Carter, fire marshal with the Cape fire department, reported Friday that the fire caused $40,000 in damage to the store. The cause was accidental, and the heat source was determined as electrical.
The fire originated in the middle of the business, under the sales counter.
Roberto Figueredo, the owner of the store, said he had been in the location for about four years. He was trying to save what flowers he could from the charred remains Friday morning and was later selling them on the sidewalk.
Figueredo did not know what happened and declined to comment further.
