Cape Coral Irish American Club to be part of 9th Annual Caloosahatchee Celtic Festival
The city of Fort Myers Fort Myers Recreation Division and Celtic Heritage
Productions will host the 9th Annual Caloosahatchee Celtic Festival Saturday, Jan. 28, at Centennial Park.
Officials invite you to “don your tartan” and bring your family and friends to enjoy the festivities.
A kick-off will be held Friday evening, Jan. 27, at the Clarion Fort Myers Tiki Bar, with performances by West of Galway, Marcille Wallis & Friends, Rathkeltair and Albannach.
Gates will open at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the park for the actual festival, which will include music, food, beverage and craft vendors. The festival runs until 6 p.m.
“This is actually the only Celtic festival in the tri-county, Southwest Florida area,” said city of Fort Myers Program Coordinator-Recreation Kelly MacDonald.
“We’re very excited to have one headlining music act – Albannach – that is from Glasgow, Scotland. Some members of the group are part-time American residents.”
There will be seven hours of non-stop Celtic music. Besides Albannach,
Rathkeltair, one of North America’s premier Celtic rock bands, will perform, and Southwest Florida’s own West of Galway, Kellyn Celtic Arts Dancers and Marcille Wallis and Friends will also take the stage.
The Cape Coral Irish American Club will be represented at the event.
Janis Snyder, secretary of the Cape Coral Irish American Club, said, “We are very excited to be participating. Besides having an informational booth, we are going to be selling our raffle tickets for our trip to Ireland and drawing that during our festival March 3 and 4.”
She invites participants to look for the club.
“We’ll have bright, bright green T-shirts, you can’t miss them,” she said.
The British Car Club of Southwest Florida will also display members’ cars, and offer the public a chance to vote for “Best of Show.”
Celtic fare will include items such as fish and chips and meat pies, along with traditional American festival food.
Domestic beers and imports will both be served. Attendees are invited to bring blankets and or lawn chairs. Admission is $5 and children under 12 are free.
Centennial Park is located in downtown Fort Myers along the Caloosahatchee River.
