Vietnam BrotherHood donates check to Caring Center
The Vietnam BrotherHood Golf Company of Cape Coral is an organization that’s as dedicated to the community as it is to its members.
The group’s mission, in part, is to promote the image of the Vietnam veteran as a productive member of society. Tuesday the group furthered that mission by donating a check to the Cape Coral Caring Center.
“They take care of Cape Coral residents and we’re a Cape-based organization,” said Bruce Miller, Golf Company member.
Miller added, “We found ourselves in a better position financially this year. We hope to continue this next year, too.”
Cape Caring Center Executive Director Fred Cull said the center is able to provide help to families in need.
Whether it’s food, money for utilities or referrals to other agencies, the Cape Caring Center tries to help out the community in any way they can, Cull said.
This year has seen record numbers of families come through the center’s doors. Cull said over 14,000 people, or 4,235 families, have come to the Cape Coral Caring Center for assistance in 2011.
That’s why the donation from Golf Company came in handy, Cull said.
“Right now the community’s need is at its peak,” he added.
With eight members in the chapter, Golf Company is always looking for new members.
They are open to veterans of all wars, but as veterans of the Vietnam War, they find solace in each other’s company.
For Ted Lee, it’s an opportunity to talk about his experiences in the war with those who were there. It’s invaluable to have that outlet, he said.
“Being able to talk with these guys helps tremendously,” Lee said. “But there’s still some things I’m reluctant to talk about.”
Vietnam Brotherhood Golf Company meets the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month, 7 p.m., at the VFW Post on Pondella Road.
