2 min read

A Cape Coral man who was up on a communications tower when he died Monday had been contracted to do maintenance on the tower’s lights.

Nick G. Rouskey, 61, was contracted to do maintenance and replace the lights on a cell tower, at 9930 Channel Drive, in Bonita Springs, according to local authorities.

He was the owner of Broadcast Services Tower Services.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a medial assistance call from the tower on Monday. Upon arrival authorities met with Dylan Rouskey, Rouskey’s 19-year-old grandson. They learned Rouskey was stuck on the tower’s top.

According to a report, Rouskey was up in a climbing rig doing work, while his grandson was on the ground controlling the wrench. Dylan Rouskey explained that he lost radio contact with his grandfather at approximately 1 p.m.

Dylan Rouskey called his grandmother, who arrived on scene. They tried to contact Rouskey via an air horn with no results. They then contacted 911.

A team of rescuers was sent up the tower. The report states that Rouskey was found unresponsive in his harness. EMS later pronounced him dead.

Officials at the LCSO declined to comment Tuesday on the possible cause of death. The Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy of the body.

Rouskey’s family could not be reached for comment on the incident.
