Cape man charged with five counts of fraud
A Cape Coral man has been arrested and charged with writing more than $22,000 in bad checks.
Jorge Gutierrez, 37, of 3430 Santa Barbara Blvd., Apt. 1, Cape Coral, has been charged with five counts of fraud, according to a release from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
A three-month investigation by the LCSO Economic Crimes Unit has reportedly revealed that Gutierrez would deposit worthless checks in his business account at a North Fort Myers bank under the name AJ Maintenance Solutions LLC.
Several days before Christmas in 2010, Gutierrez began depositing the worthless checks, according to the investigation. Once the checks were credited to his account, Gutierrez went on a shopping spree and made several large purchases that included electronics, toys and household items.
Bank employees became suspicious when the suspect’s bank account started showing a negative balance of more than $20,000. The bank notified the Sheriff’s Office, which launched an investigation.
