Cape man remains in jail following grow house bust

A Cape Coral man remained in jail Wednesday after being picked up earlier this month in connection to an alleged marijuana grow house operation.

Manuel Camejo Abreu, 36, of 2809 N.W. Seventh St., was arrested and charged Nov. 1 with one count of marijuana traffick excess of 25 pounds or 300 plants or more. He is being held at the Lee County Jail without bond.

Assistant Public Defender Joseph Miskovich is representing Abreu.

Miskovich did not return a message Wednesday seeking comment.

According to an arrest report, Cape police executed a search warrant at 2809 N.W. Seventh St. on Nov. 1. Upon arriving, they announced that anyone inside should exit with their hands up. Abreu exited through the front door.

He was detained by officers and the residence was secured.

Inside the garage, police discovered 15 large buckets that each contained a cannabis plant with a root system. They also found bottles of liquid fertilizer, high pressure light bulbs, a CO2 generator, a propane tank and an air handler.

In the master bedroom, there were an additional 12 large buckets found, again each containing a cannabis plant with a root system. There were more high pressure light bulbs located, as well as more bottles of liquid fertilizer.

The master bathroom had in it one large bucket, again including a cannabis plant with a root system, along with a high pressure light bulb. According to the report, fertilizer bottles and transformers were in the master closet.

In a second bedroom in the residence, police found more transformers, a second air handler, two more propane tanks and three light fixture hoods.

There were three air conditioning units located outside of the home, police reported. Two of the units were wired with air being pumped into the home.

The weight of the cannabis and root systems found was 172.05 pounds.

Abreu has a court appearance scheduled for Dec. 5.
