Voter Input Survey now “live” for questions for upcoming candidate debates
The city of Cape Coral has launched its online Voter Input Survey to solicit questions from the voters that will be posed to the City Council candidates at the city’s upcoming General Election debates. The debates will be at 7 p.m., Oct. 27 and 28, in City Council Chambers. Candidates from Districts 2, 3, 5 and 7 will participate in the forums, which will be broadcast live on CapeTV, Channel 98 on Comcast, and streamed live on the City’s website (www.capecoral.net).
“We have been looking for an option that will allow our citizens to play a greater role in our candidate debates,” said Connie Barron, public information director for the city. “This online tool will provide our voters with an opportunity to submit questions they would like to hear our City Council candidates answer at the debates.”
Voters can access the online survey at the City’s website www.capecoral.net. There are several general categories for questions, and participants can submit up to three questions. The polling tool also asks for the first name only of the person submitting the questions so that a name can be associated with the question when posed to the candidates. Providing a name is optional, though.
“We have used other Q&A formats in our past debates; however, we always lamented the fact that we did not have an organized method to seek the input of our voters,” added Barron. “This online poll will be our first attempt to reach out to the citizens and actually open the debates to the public.”
The National Research Center is conducting the Voter Input Survey for the city at a nominal fee. The NRC provides a transparent and unbiased process that will create a list of questions proposed by Cape voters. The online poll will remain “live” until at least 100 questions have been received. At that time, the poll will be closed. The National Research Center will compile the questions and provide them to the city prior to the debates.
