Cape, MPO, work out tentative agreement to relocate MPO offices to the city

The city of Cape Coral and the Lee County Metropolitan Planning Organization have reached a tentative agreement to relocate the MPO offices into open space located in the city’s old Public Safety Building.

The city presented its proposal to the MPO Wednesday with specifics on a lease arrangement that will allow the MPO to move its operations to Cape Coral.

The agreement would provide 900 square feet of space at a lease rate of $4 per square foot or $300 per month.

This rate includes electric, water and sewer service, janitorial maintenance, building and liability insurance, and parking.

The MPO would be responsible for establishing phone and Internet service.

The space could be available to the MPO within 30 60 days.

The terms of the lease still are being finalized, and the agreement must be approved by the Cape Coral City Council.

At the Sept.16 MPO Board meeting, the board decided to give the SWFRPC the required six months notice to terminate their current Staff Services Agreement.

The MPO directed its staff to reach out to the local jurisdictions regarding interest in housing the MPO.

The City of Cape Coral expressed immediate interest in working with the MPO to bring their offices here, city officials said.
