Small business classes to begin in October
Small businesses classes return next month in downtown Cape Coral, continuing a successful run of bringing higher education opportunities to the city.
Edison State College professor Tom McNulty also is set to return to teach the courses.
McNulty said Tuesday that the previous courses were a great success, exceeding his attendance expectations. McNulty expected about 20 students but ended closer to a hundred.
“We had people from Fort Myers, from Bonita, even from Punta Gorda,” McNulty said. “I think coming to Cape Coral was a rewarding experience for them.”
Three 90-minute sessions are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 6 8 p.m.; the cost is $20 per person for all three sessions.
Creating a business plan is the focus of the workshops and each session will have a different topic. Guest speakers are to include Mayor John Sullivan and Rep. Gary Aubuchon.
“Talking about a business plan and doing it are two different things,” McNulty added.
Bringing Edison College back to the city for the third time will hopefully be the beginning of bringing a college to the city fulltime, at least for one Community Redevelopment Agency board member.
“I look forward to the day when there is a satellite campus of Edison State College in Cape Coral,” said Board member Jack Evans. “It can do nothing but move the city forward.”
Courses will be held at the offices of the CRA in Big John’s Plaza.
In other news, the CRA pledged up to $1,000 to sponsor the stage for the upcoming “Wake the Cape” concert, set for Saturday, Oct. 15.
The concert will feature local bands and local vendors, who co-organizer Sheri Pogue said are allowed to set up for free.
Pogue told the CRA board that the event is not only aimed at providing entertainment but allowed the city to showcase its business community.
“We’re letting people inside and out know what our city has to offer,” Pogue said.
The CRA will pay up to $1,000 to the city’s Parks and Recreation Department for use of the stage.
The event is expected to be held in the parking lot behind Royal Key bar.
