Police officer accidentally damages gas pump hose

1 min read

A Cape Coral police officer apparently damaged a city fuel pump when he tried to drive away with the gas nozzle still inserted in his tank.

According to the incident report, the officer pumped gas into his assigned patrol vehicle Tuesday morning in the 1000 block of Cultural Park Boulevard. He stated in the report that he “inadvertently left the nozzle in my vehicle and attempted to drive away.”

The fuel hose became disconnected from the pump and fell to the ground.

Gas was not flowing at the time, but the hose needs to be reconnected.

The damage to the hose is estimated at $150, according to the report.

It was unknown Thursday who will cover the costs to repair the fuel hose.
