Cape Coral police: Forensics used to make burglary arrest
Forensics evidence recovered at the scene of an attempted burglary has led to the arrest of a Cape Coral man.
Robert Joseph Wisdom, 23, of 15 S.E. 24th Ave. was charged with with occupied burglary of a dwelling and criminal mischief in connection with an attempted break-in on May 11, police officials said Tuesday.
A citizen had called Cape Coral police at 2 a.m. on May 11 and reported that that he heard someone banging on the front door and ringing the doorbell of his home in the 1400 block of S.E. 20th Street. The caller went out to investigate but did not see anyone. Moments later, he heard someone attempting to open his lanai door to the rear of his home. He then heard screen tearing and someone banging on his rear windows. The caller was unable to provide a description of the suspect.
As officers were responding to the reported break-in, they saw a male, later identified as Robert Wisdom, sitting on the ground next to a vehicle in the front yard of 1425 S.E. 20th Street. This is the home next door to the original caller. Wisdom told officers that he had been there for approximately 45 minutes and had not seen nor heard anyone, officials said.
Officers inspected and processed the lanai of the original caller and discovered that the door latch had been broken and screens on three windows had been removed. Officers also noted Marlboro menthol cigarette butts on the ground under the window. Officer Dustin Green processed the window and was able to lift latent fingerprints from the exterior of the window.
Wisdom again denied breaking into the victim’s lanai however he was arrested on unrelated charges. Upon being arrested, he was searched and found to be in possession of a pack of Marlboro menthol cigarettes, the same brand that were found at the crime scene.
On May 15, CCPD forensics technician Lisa Lansky conducted an analysis of the prints recovered from the crime scene. They were a match for those of Robert Wisdom, officials said. With that information, Detective Jazmin Correa was able to charge Wisdom with Occupied Burglary of a Dwelling and Criminal Mischief.
