New city water, sewer rates in effect
Customers on the city of Cape Coral’s water and sewer service will see an 8 percent rate increase in upcoming monthly bills as a scheduled increase went into effect Friday.
The 8 percent increase is the result of City Council’s efforts to lower a previously planned increase of 15 percent.
The monthly water and sewer collections fund the operations of the city’s reverse osmosis water plants in the north and south Cape, and the two wastewater reclamation facilities. They also are being used to pay the debt service associated with the recently completed expansion of these facilities.
The average monthly water and sewer bill will increase from $103.72 per month to $111.56. Had the 15 percent increase re-mained in place, the bill would have increased to $117.84.
