Labor Day weekend specials planned at Sun Splash
Sun Splash Family Waterpark will be open Labor Day weekend with fun festivities for the entire family from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Sept. 4-6.
The water park will have an inaugural plastic Duck Race down the Mainstream River on Monday.
Patriotic decor and All-American food specials, including buy-one, get-one-free hot dogs and hot apple pie slices for $1 will be for sale all weekend long.
“We are trying to keep things light for the end of the summer,” Sun Splash Manager Sandy Greiner said.
She said they are trying to sell 1,000 ducks for the race to raise money for the Cape Coral Special Populations Community.
“I am hoping to do one every year for the same cause because they are at the foot of Sun Splash,” Greiner said, adding, “so I would like to continue to work with them.”
Individuals can buy tickets to purchase ducks for $5, six for $25 or 12 for $50. They can be purchased at Sun Splash, Four Freedoms Park and the Frieda B. Smith Special Populations Center. All the proceeds from ticket sales will go towards the Cape Coral Special Populations Community.
Ducks can be purchased all weekend long, Greiner said. Individuals can come into the office and purchase ducks without buying a ticket to enter the park, she added.
Those who purchase a duck will get a number, Greiner said, so individuals can watch their duck go down the stream.
The inaugural Duck Race will take off at 5 p.m. after everyone exits the Mainstream River, she said, adding that all the ducks will be dropped in the river at the same time.
The first place winner will receive a weekend getaway to Diamond Head Resort and Spa on Fort Myers Beach, second place will receive four family passes for the 2011 Sun Splash season, third place will receive four rounds of golf at Coral Oaks Golf Course, fourth place will receive $100 and the last place winner will receive $50.
