The Twilight Talks at the Sanibel Historical Museum & Village are returning for their sixth consecutive year. The program began in 2011 after Emilie Alfino became the museum manager.

“Our then president, Alex Werner had the idea and we had them in the school house and it just grew from there. They sold out instantly every time we had them,” Alfino said. “We always try to get speakers that would be of interest to people and somehow of course relate it to Sanibel and Captiva.”

She said the island tradition attracted roughly 500 people last year. The Twilight Talks are put on by Alfino and her committee.

Toni Lapi, owner of ‘Tween Waters Inn will kick off the first Twilight Talk which begins Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. Lapi will reminiscence on memories of the Inn and Captiva at Shore Haven.

The second Twilight Talk will take place Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. at Shore Haven. The Mayerons, McQuade and Gleason families will tell intriguing stories about Sanibel’s rich history.

“Mark McQuade and Deb Gleason, they’re twins and then Ellen and Victor Mayerons, they’re brother and sister, are going to share stories about growing up in the ’50s and ’60s and doing business in the ’70s and ’80s on Sanibel,” Alfino said.

On March 7 at 7 p.m. at Shore Haven, author Jeri Magg will speak out her new book “The Remarkable Women of Sanibel & Captiva.”

“The book has everyone from the early pioneers to Judie Zimomra. March is Women’s History Month so it really fits,” Alfino said.

The last Twilight Talk of the season will be April 3 and will be held at The Community House. This particular talk will unveil Sanibel’s Hertitage Trail.

“This is the first time we’ll be at The Community House,” Alfino said.

Tickets for each program is $10 and can be purchased by calling (239) 472-4648. It is encouraged to purchase tickets early since the Twilight Talks sell out fast.
