Prescribed burn of Frannie’s Preserve on May 7

1 min read

The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF) will conduct a prescribed burn of a 15-acre area in the southern, interior portion of Frannie’s Preserve, located east of Tarpon Bay Road and north of Casa Ybel and the Butterknife subdivision. The prescribed burn will reduce the likelihood of wildfires and help preserve the natural ecology of the area.

Ignition is expected at approximately 10 a.m. on Wednesday, with completion of the burn by 4 p.m. The current forecast is for southeast winds in the morning and afternoon. Current weather forecasts are suitable for the burn. However, a change in forecast conditions may result in cancelation of the planned prescribed burn.

During the prescribed burn, residents and visitors are encouraged to close their windows, cover pools, move cars and furniture indoors, and, if necessary, stay indoors to minimize the impacts from smoke. Ash and smoke associated with a prescribed burn cannot be prevented.
