Women’s discussion group hosting distinguished speakers at BIG ARTS
The Women’s Seminar Discussion group will continue to host distinguished speakers for the remainder of February and March. Margaret Mohandro, director of the Sanibel Public Library, has spoken about “Opportunities for and Contributions by Women Authors and Librarians.” Former Massachusetts Senator Marian Walsh spoke to a large audience in Schein Hall about “Challenges Facing Women in the Political Arena.” The group looks forward to the following speakers and discussions for the remainder of this season:
Feb. 20: Rabbi Myra Soifer of Temple Bat Yam, “Breaking the Sacred Ceiling Can Be A Holy Pain.”
Feb. 27: Jodi Andrews, global programs manager for a large multinational technology company, “Challenges, Opportunities and Contributions of Women in Business.”
March 6: Amy Tardif, WGCU station manager and news director, “Women in the Media.”
The Women’s Seminar discussions at BIG ARTS have evolved during the past twenty years from a group called “Creative Women in History” which began in 1994. It has morphed into “Women Reflecting on Women,” “Women’s Issues,” and now “Women’s Seminar.” The history of the Women’s Movement, the lives of “sung” and “unsung” women, “first ladies” in all walks of life have been studied, as well as the skills and abilities which enabled women to overcome obstacles, “break the glass ceiling” and succeed in areas where few had succeeded in the past.
The discussions are not limited to women only; all are welcome. The group meets on Thursdays at 10 a.m. in the Bonser Room at BIG ARTS. There is a $12 fee for each session for those not already registered members of the Women’s Seminar. Please call BIG ARTS office at 395-0900 if you wish to attend any particular session and for further information.
