Sanibel Historical Village announces 30th Anniversary Campaign
A “Hard Hat” party was held Nov. 13 on the grounds of the Sanibel Historical Village. Volunteers and donors kicked off a $200,000 campaign to restore Shore Haven and make necessary improvements to the village infrastructure. Janet and Peter Halliday are chairing the campaign, which will be officially launched Nov. 25.
The Sanibel Captiva Trust Company and Bailey’s General Store were recognized at the event for their sponsorship donations.
The village’s board has allocated $150,000 from its reserves toward these projects, but the scope of the Shore Haven renovation requires this 30th Anniversary Campaign.
“Anyone interested in making a substantial donation to the Sanibel Historical Museum and Village 30th Anniversary Campaign, please consider donating appreciated stock from your investment portfolio,” said Peter Halliday. “You can achieve increased tax benefits while helping us plan for the future.”
The Sanibel Captiva Trust Company has established a “Gift Account” where you can have your appreciated stock delivered directly into the account from your broker or investment manager. The stock will then be sold and all of the proceeds wired to the museum, all without any fees or expenses from the sale of the stock. The Sanibel Historical Museum and Village will receive 100 percent of the value of the donated stock.
“We thank the Sanibel Captiva Trust Company for their generosity in helping us with this effort,” said Halliday.
The stock must have been held for more than one year to be eligible for the “qualified appreciated stock” deduction.
“Prior to making a donation of stock, consult first with your tax professional and/or investment advisor,” Halliday said. “You may also donate directly from your IRA to the Historical Village if you are over 70-1/2 and avoid federal income tax for donations made by year’s end.”
