Inaugural Wellness Walk set for Feb. 9
On Sunday, Feb. 9, members of the Sanibel/Captiva community can lace up their walking shoes and come together to support the American Heart Association at the inaugural Heart, Stroke & Wellness Walk.
The Wellness Walk will start at Bailey’s Center, 2477 Periwinkle Way. Festivities begin at 1 p.m. and the non-competitive 3.1-mile walk starts at 2 p.m., rain or shine.
The event will bring awareness to the American Heart Association’s heart disease and stroke prevention efforts, as well as raise funds for lifesaving research, education and advocacy. Prior to the walk, there will be a festival area featuring local sponsors and educational resources on heart disease and stroke. There also will be fun, heart-healthy activities for walkers of all ages.
The cost to participate is a $50 donation, which includes a T-shirt. Register to walk online at sanibelcaptivaheartwalk.kintera.org.
The Heart Walk is nationally sponsored by Subway Restaurants and Jenny Craig.
