Maintaining 74 rental properties would be an impossible task if not for the hard work of Community Housing and Resources (CHR) maintenance worker Ken Shearer and some hard working volunteers.

With volunteer help from George Campion and CHR tenant Chuck Woods, the small house at Algiers Beach received a much needed face lift.

“John Grey generously donated paint needed for the job and, wow, what a difference it made. The place looks great,” said CHR executive director Kelly Collini. “We always have a list of maintenance projects that need to be addressed and we couldn’t do it without the help of the community.”

“This is an example of how the Sanibel community rallies together to lend a helping hand,” said CHR board of directors chairman Richard Johnson. “John Grey Painting supplied the paint and volunteers jumped in to help get the job done.”

CHR is building a corps of volunteers to help with various tasks and projects such as cleaning, painting, lawn maintenance and office assistance. Anyone interested in volunteering is asked to call CHR at 472-1189 or visit the office at the Center for Life building. 2401 Library Way.

CHR is a private not-for profit organization primarily dedicated to providing affordable housing to families and individuals who work on or serve the communities of Sanibel and Captiva.
