Time is short for eligible voters wanting to take advantage of Florida’s early voting period in Lee County.

The eight-day early voting period ends at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3. Voters can fill out the 2012 General Election ballots from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at any of the five early voting locations.

The advantage of voting early is any voter can vote at any early voting site in the county.

According to supervisor of elections Sharon Harrington, a driver’s license identifies your precinct and the computer prints the one of the 32 precinct specific ballots.

Early voting centers could be more crowded than your precinct on election day.

The General Election ballot is a dizzying seven pages, five of which are devoted to 11 constitutional amendments and one county referendum authorizing slot machine gaming at the Naples-Fort Myers dog track.

Besides voting for President, voters will choose state House and Senate, U.S. House and Senate, county offices for Sheriff, tax collector, mosquito control, four county commissioners, one school board seat and three Lee Memorial Health System board seats. There’s also three supreme court justices and four district courts of appeals choices to make.

“I hope they see one of the 370,000 sample ballots we mailed out,” Harrington said. “We tell people to use the sample so you can prepare ahead of time on what the ballot will look like.”

After early voting ends on Nov. 3, voters must vote at their assigned precinct on Nov. 6. You can find your assigned precinct and view or print a sample ballot online at www.leeelections.com
