Anglers reel in $38,000 for United Way
A record $38,000 was raised on April 21 at the 16th annual LCEC United Way Fishing Tournament, the utility announced last week.
The event was fished by 203 anglers in 70 boats. Anglers collectively caught 64 redfish, 39 trout, 20 snapper and 14 grand slams (at least one of each species) despite inclement weather.
Anglers aboard Southern Ice cleaned up with three awards. They won the grand slam category with 15.03 pounds of fish, weighed the top redfish at 8.07 pounds and the top snapper at 4.13 pounds.
The Reel Diehards weighed the No. 2 redfish at 7.88 pounds. The top trout at 3.41 pounds was caught by the Bottom Dwellers.
The amount raised for the United Way is an increase of more than $10,000 over last year’s tournament.
