The Dunes Summer Tennis Class Tournament returns to Sanibel
The Dunes Summer Tennis Classic USTA-sanctioned tournament will return to Sanibel Island this weekend. Pavel & Blackwood Tennis Academy, along with The Dunes Golf and Tennis Club, will host the competition for the second year.
The Dunes Summer Classic is open to USTA adult members, 18 years or older, and will be played on Har-Tru courts. As an “age” category tournament, players could face a variety of skill levels. Players may choose to compete in a younger age group, but not older. A first-round consolation match is in effect, thus guaranteeing each player at least two matches.
Pavel & Blackwood Tennis Academy’s USPTA-certified head tennis professional and tournament director, Toni Halski anticipates an impressive turn out again this year, especially given The Dunes Summer Tennis Classic is scheduled for the weekend after the French Open finals.
“After spending two weeks watching their favorite French Open tennis professionals battle it out pre-Wimbledon, players will be ready to compete in The Dunes Summer Tennis Classic June 10-12,” said Halski.
The entry fee for singles, men and women, is $38.13 in categories: Open, 35, 45, 55 and 65 and older; and the entry fee for doubles – men, women or mixed – in the same categories is $28 per person. Awards will be presented to all main draw finalists.
Tournament registration deadline is noon on June 7. Online registration can be completed at USTA.com (Tournament ID 153710411) or contact Diane Limeri, tennis manager at The Dunes, at 239-472-3522.
Tournament players interested in staying on Sanibel Island while participating in the tournament should contact the Sanibel Beach and Golf Resort for special rates at 866-565-5093.
