Eileen Fisher runs food drive for FISH

Friends In Service Here (F.I.S.H.) of Sanibel has teamed up with Eileen Fisher, the upscale ladies apparel store on the island, and will be running a FISH Food Drive from May 22 through May 29.
The food drive will help restock the FISH food pantry, after a very busy season. Approximately 100 families are currently using the food pantry on a regular basis. You can bring non-perishable food items when you visit the Eileen Fisher store in the Forever Green Center at 2055 Periwinkle Way.
“Each year Eileen Fisher supports several local charities,” said Ruth Mayer, manager of Eileen Fisher. “This year, we chose FISH of Sanibel as our food drive charity of choice. We know how difficult it has been economically for many people on Sanibel and Captiva over the past year or so and we know that FISH is truly making a difference in the lives of many of our neighbors.
You can drop off your non-perishable food items during our food drive whether you are an Eileen Fisher customer or you are just passing by our door,” Mayer concluded.
The FISH Food Pantry is entering its lean period, many donors and supporters of FISH have left or are about to head north for the summer. The demand for the food pantry is at its highest in the summer months and FISH finds it hard to keep the food pantry well stocked during this time.
Feel free to give generously to FISH during the Eileen Fisher Food Drive. FISH of Sanibel is a non-profit, staffed by volunteer organization, assisting Sanibel and Captiva islanders and visitors with a wide variety of services. For more than 29 years, FISH has been a “neighbor helping neighbors” by offering a range of human services including:
? Daily hot meals program
? Emergency financial assistance
? Food pantry
? In-home visitation
? Health care referral service
? Person-to-person telephone calls
? Non-emergency transport on and off the island
? Temporary loan of health equipment
? Hurricane preparedness information
FISH relies on community support to fund all programs and accepts unopened, unexpired food items, which are delivered directly to island families in need. The Walk-in Center is now located at 1630 Periwinkle Way, Unit B, next to Pfeifer Realty Group. It is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and can be contacted at 472-4775.
