Captiva History Project reaches initial goal

The Captiva History Project has reached its initial goal of raising $25,000 to initiate archiving photos, records and documents pertaining to the island’s long and storied history.
“We achieved this within a month of premiering our new DVD ‘Captiva Memories,’ thanks to the generosity of Captiva businesses and individuals,” said member Stella Farwell.
The film, shot by Rusty Farst, was viewed by about 150 people on April 7. Half of the audience was seated in the Chapel By the Sea while the remaining audience saw a simultaneous showing at the Captiva Civic Association meeting hall.
Copies may still be obtained for a tax-deductible donation of $250. Call the Captiva Community Association at 472-2111 for more information.
The Captiva History Project hopes to obtain additional funds for such project as historic exhibits, programs and films.
