Panel to discuss results of Village citizen survey

2 min read

Last month, the Captiva Community Panel issued a survey to all residents of the Village, asking for feedback on the Panel’s proposed changes to building restrictions in the land development code, and at their April meeting, Panel members will have the opportunity to discuss the results of the survey.

Panel Administrator Ken Gooderham said that so far, response from Village residents has been good, but opinions remain divided.

“Out of 330 letters mailed — one to each STRAP number in the Village — 99 have responded as of March 29 mail and only eight were returned as undeliverable. So, roughly a 30 percent response so far,” Gooderham said. “Opinions are pretty evenly divided, as many of us expected, and there are

some geographic trends starting to coalesce with some areas very consistently supporting one height standard or the other.”

Once Gooderham has received all the postcards — the deadline is today — he will finalize the results and present the data to panel members, who will discuss the matter during their monthly meeting on April 12.

Other items on the agenda include updates from the Captiva Erosion Prevention District and the Captiva Hurricane Preparation and Response Committee, and a presentation by Mark Thompson, Loren Coen and Erick Lindblad of the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation summarizing the results of the SCCF Marine Laboratory’s two-year water quality study.

The Captiva Community Panel will meet at on Tuesday, April 12, at 9 a.m. in the Wakefield Room at ‘Tween Waters Inn, located at 15951 Captiva Drive.

Dates for future meetings are tentatively scheduled for May 10, June 14 and July 12.
