F.I.S.H. presents Community Appreciation Awards at annual meeting
F.I.S.H. (Friends In Service Here) of Sanibel had its biggest turnout ever at its Annual Meeting and Volunteer Recognition Lunch on Feb. 16 at The Sanctuary Golf Club.
More than 120 guests attended this upbeat event and heard from new F.I.S.H. President Bill Fellows, who talked about the growth in client services over the past year and learned about F.I.S.H. “rising to the challenge” of raising funds to meet this demand.
“We were delighted that we had such a good turnout at our Annual Meeting,” said Fellows. “We have had a very busy year and the F.I.S.H. organization has continued to grow, this event gave us an opportunity to talk about the traditional services we continue to offer.”
F.I.S.H. now has a group of over 200 volunteers from Sanibel and Captiva who regularly help the organization provide a wide range of services to our neighbors in need. The Annual Meeting was also an occasion to thank formally a number of organizations who have partnered and supported F.I.S.H. over the past year.
Maggi Feiner, F.I.S.H. Executive Director, presented Community Appreciation Awards to the following organizations:
• Friends Who Care
• United Way of Lee County
• Bailey’s General Store
• Island Pharmacy
• Dan Hahn Custom Builders
• The Good Neighbor Foundation
• Southwest Florida Community Foundation
Some wonderful musical entertainment was provided by the BIG Arts Community Chorus, directed by Steve Cramer. The 80-member-strong chorus sang a number of musical pieces from their upcoming BIG Arts Spring Concert on March 24.
“We also had the opportunity to talk about the additional areas of social investment F.I.S.H. is making in the community such as memory screening, assistance with tax filing, educational workshops for mothers with young babies and toddlers, job search skills, etc.,” added Fellows. “Our volunteers are a huge asset to F.I.S.H. and to Sanibel and Captiva and we were pleased to be able to thank so many of them personally for all they do.”
F.I.S.H. of Sanibel, Inc. is a non-profit, staffed by volunteer organization, assisting Sanibel and Captiva islanders and visitors with a wide range of services. For more than 30 years, F.I.S.H. has been a “neighbor helping neighbors” by offering a range of human services to those in need.
