Zonta Club of Sanibel-Captiva installs two new members
At its first business meeting of 2011, the Zonta Club of Sanibel-Captiva welcomed two new members, expanding the current membership to 73.
Zonta is a service organization of professional women working together to provide hands-on assistance, advocacy and funds to strengthen women’s lives on the islands, in Lee County and around the world through Zonta International.
As they were officially installed by President Linda Robison, both agreed to the traditional call to respond “enthusiastically” when called upon for leadership roles in the club.
Emilie Alfino is a full-time Sanibel resident with an extensive background in public relations and newspaper reporting. She currently serves as communications director for PURRE, the organization that was created to help protect the waters around Sanibel. She is sponsored by Claire Mallon.
Jill Janda-Kanner, sponsored by President-elect Barbara Nagle, is a former music teacher who has resided in Cleveland, Ohio and Maryland. She has drawn on her background to become active in the summer camp programs at Sanibel’s BIG Arts campus.
The club is now in full swing in planning for the 10th annual “A Peek at the Unique,” the signature fundraiser and home tour, set for Saturday, March 12. Funds raised are given in grants to programs that support the Zonta mission of improving the status of women.
