Dog licenses now available only at Rec Center
Effective Dec. 27, 2010, Sanibel dog owners will purchase their dog license at the Sanibel Recreation Center, located at 3880 Sanibel-Captiva Road. Dog licenses will no longer be sold at the Sanibel Finance Department at City Hall.
In announcing the change, Sanibel City Manager Judie Zimomra stated, “This is our next step in continuing to pursue our top priorities: improving efficiency for the taxpayers as well as convenience for our citizens. Sales of dog licenses from the Recreation Center provide residents with the ease of purchasing their dog license(s) anytime the Recreation Center is open.”
In addition to the Dog License, as of October, Sanibel residents also purchase their Beach Parking Permit at the Rec Center. Both a Dog License and Beach Parking Permit may now be purchased seven days a week anytime the Rec Center is open. Payment may be made via cash, check, MasterCard or Visa.
The cost of a dog license is $10. Proof of current rabies inoculation is required. Due to the fact that veterinarians are now giving rabies inoculations for 1 to 3 years validity, please give the expiration date of the rabies shot on the dog license application form and not the date the shot was given.
Please remember, we all love our pets, but only service animals are allowed inside the Rec Center. Additionally, a $5 late fee is charged for any dog license obtained after Jan. 31, 2011.
The Sanibel Recreation Center is open Monday through Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday from to 5 p.m. Call 472-0345 for more information.
