Volunteers needed for FRIENDS WHO CARE holiday activities
During the past 28 years, FRIENDS WHO CARE, Inc. has been assisting individuals in our community. Our organization has assisted many Sanibel Island residents in crisis-related situations. Our group does not just work with children in our community, we also work with many adults.
FRIENDS WHO CARE works on an anonymous basis through information from the Police Department, local churches, schools and other caring individuals in our community.
The holiday season has become a very rewarding experience. Many volunteers have joined us in the gift collection program, located at the Sanibel Post Office, Fire Station #1, City Hall, The Sanibel Island Garden Club, ABWA, The Dunes Golf & Tennis Club, The Sanctuary Golf Club, The Center 4 Life, Sanibel Captiva Community Bank, Bank of the Islands, Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ and Zonta.
This year, Royal Shell will be joining our cause with FRIENDS WHO CARE trees at both Tahitian Gardens and The Olde Sanibel Shoppes. Lily & Co. is hosting their holiday party with a fundraiser for FRIENDS WHO CARE. The local service clubs — Rotary, Lions and Kiwanis — have contributed funds in support of our organization.
We also have the continued support of many of the local Realtors and churches. Other contributions are given from private individuals, all providing their time and effort to make children and adults happy this holiday season.
The Kiwanis Club of Sanibel & Captiva make the “Santa Run,” which delivers all the gifts to the children and seniors on the island on the evening of Thursday, Dec. 23. In preparation for this event, FRIENDS WHO CARE needs volunteers to assist in gift sorting and wrapping.
On Wednesday, Dec. 15 beginning at 3 p.m., gift sorting will take place at the Sanibel Community House, 2173 Periwinkle Way. The following morning, Thursday, Dec. 16, wrapping presents will take place at the Sanibel Community House starting at 9 a.m. Volunteers are asked to please bring scissors with them.
