SCCF’s Wines in the Wild to feature organic wines

Enjoy an evening of wine, food and nature at SCCF’s Wines in the Wild fundraiser, returning on Saturday, Nov. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Grape growers and winemakers around the world have begun to embrace the idea of producing premium wines made in harmony with nature. For more than 40 years, SCCF has encouraged islanders to live in harmony with our natural habitat. What better theme for SCCF’s third annual Wines in the Wild than “Organic, Sustainable and Biodynamic?”
The evening will feature six wines for tasting.
“Each was chosen not only because it fits into one of those categories but because of its overall quality,” said Tom Uhler, who is organizing the tasting. “They also represent good value. This is a good way to learn about some new wines.”
The evening’s wines that are labeled organic are made with grapes grown in an organic fashion and with no sulfites added. Grapes for the sustainable wines are grown with minimal chemical treatments and energy use.
Biodynamic farming techniques utilize the vineyard’s natural resources to cultivate the highest quality grapes possible without the use of pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, synthetic fertilizers, growth stimulants or GOMs.
Wines in the Wild will be held on the grounds at SCCF’s Nature Center, located at 3333 Sanibel-Captiva Road on Sanibel, from 6 to 8 p.m. A delicious array of food will accompany the wines. The cost for this fun evening is $75 per person.
Reservations are requested and can be made by calling SCCF at 472-2329.
