SCCF’s Anders to discuss pros, cons of island life at Shell Point
The Academy at Shell Point invites the public to attend a presentation by Kristie Anders, Education Director for Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation. The event will take place on Friday, Sept. 17 starting at 10 a.m. in the Grand Cypress Room located in The Woodlands neighborhood in Shell Point Retirement Community.
Anders lives on North Captiva Island, and works on Sanibel Island, making her an expert on living and working the island life. She will discuss the pros and cons to island life, and even discuss what it was like to live and work on these barrier islands during Hurricane Charley in 2004.
“Sanibel, Captiva and North Captiva are such beautiful locations to live and work in, and they are so close to Shell Point,” said Teri Kollath, Manager of Academy and Volunteer Services. “It is a pleasure to have Ms. Anders visit the ‘mainland’ to offer insight into the lifestyle on these barrier islands, and how you can enjoy your visits there to their fullest.”

The Academy at Shell Point is a lifelong learning educational initiative for the residents of the retirement community. The Academy provides anywhere from 70 to 115 classes each trimester, that encompasses a well-rounded curriculum of educational opportunities for senior adults. It was named as one of 2008’s most innovative active aging programs by the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA), an association that supports professionals who develop wellness/fitness facilities and services for age 50-plus adults.
