Panel requests feedback on development code changes

3 min read

The Captiva Community Panel is still asking registered voters and property owners on Captiva to contribute comments through an online survey for recent changes to Captiva’s land development code.

Panel Administrator Ken Gooderham sent two postcards, one on Aug. 23 and the other on Sept. 1, to everyone who is eligible to take the survey, but said at Tuesday’s Panel meeting that so far, the response has been very low.

“Today we have an aggregate of about a 10 percent response. However, some of those are duplicates,” Gooderham said, noting that some people asked to resubmit their surveys because they didn’t complete them the first time or there was confusion about a question.

The survey does not allow users to log back in and change answers, so they must resubmit a new survey form.

“But I can track who had to do that, based on their numbers and IP addresses, so at the end of the survey, I’ll go back through and remove all the duplicates based on date. And people have sent e-mails to let me know they’ve retaken it,” Gooderham said.

So far, there have been 160 responses to the survey, but many of those are duplicates.

Gooderham said that some people didn’t want to do the survey because it was online and they weren’t comfortable using a computer. If a qualified voter or property requests a paper copy of the survey, Gooderham will get it to them immediately.

“We’re trying to accommodate people so that we get as many responses as possible. I’m hoping we continue to add to the number of responses by the end of the month,” Gooderham said.

Captiva Memorial Library Branch Manager Ann Bradley said that residents who require assistance in getting started on the online survey are more than welcome to come to the library for help.

Captivans can access the survey online through the Panel website www.captivacommunitypanel.com or at www.surveymonkey.com/s/CaptivaLDCsurvey.

If people have questions about the survey, they can contact Ken Gooderham by email at kengooderham@comcast.net, by phone 239-489-2616 or fax 239-362-9771.

The land development code survey will remain online and available to registered voters and property owners on Captiva until Sept. 30.

Though the Panel typically meets on the second Tuesday of the month, in October, they will meet on Oct. 19, the third Tuesday of the month, to give Panel members time to review the results of the survey.

The Panel will meet Tuesday, Oct. 19 at 9 a.m. in the Wakefield Room at ‘Tween Waters Inn, 15951 Captiva Drive.
