Republican Caucus to meet on Saturday
The next meeting of the Sanibel-Captiva Republican Caucus will be held at 10 a.m. this Saturday, April 24 in Meeting Room #4 of the Sanibel Public Library, located at 770 Dunlop Road.
The last meeting focused on the newly passed federal health care bill. The guest speaker was Dr. Samuel Hahn, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard Medical School and the Harvard MIT Joint Program in Health Science Technology. He followed this with an internship, residency and a fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. He is currently a practicing cardiologist and the managing partner of Health Care Associates in Connecticut, as well as an associate professor of clinical medicine at Yale University’s School of Medicine. Dr. Hahn has also just been asked by the Hospital of St. Raphael’s in New Haven, Ct. to be their Director of Out Patient Cardiology.
Dr. Hahn gave an overview of the new legislation from the perspective of the medical field, and said that the bill primarily addressed not-so-much health care but health care insurance. He said that for the first several years Medicare will probably not feel any significant change, but sooner rather than later government must find ways to fund its programs and/or cut costs substantially. He then spoke of a coming trend in which more and more private medical practices will be absorbed into hospitals, as the hospitals will be compensated by Medicare at a higher rate.
Any registered Republican voter is invited to attend meetings of the Sanibel-Captiva Republican Caucus. Please call Robb Moran at 472-9035 for more information.
